Hudson Valley, NY

Red Hook Residence

This 5,000-square-foot residence lies at the end of a long, winding drive in the Hudson Valley town of Red Hook, NY, at the edge of a meadow and surrounded by woodlands. Conceived as an intimate private residence, able to both accommodate family gatherings and entertain guests, the house is organized along a series of interconnected perpendicular axes that create sightlines to carry the eye through the interior and out into the landscape beyond. These axes also divide the home into several pavilions, each with a separate function: There’s a grand entertaining pavilion, master and guest-suite pavilions, a library pavilion that converts into a second guest suite and a garage with a loft-like second-floor space that can be used as an additional guest apartment.
