Holt Renfrew Vancouver Flagship

The continuation of a long-term partnership dating to 2005, these new concepts for Canadian luxury retailer Holt Renfrew’s flagships share design DNA but adapt to their unique settings. The first, in Vancouver, breaks long-established department store tropes, abandoning the lifeless, windowless brick box with interiors defined by “hard” aisles (stone) and “soft” pads (carpet). Instead, high-tech glass clads the exterior, and luminous white-marble floors unify light-filled interiors. Created with Vancouver’s Nathan Allan Glass Studios, the iconic “pillowed” glass panels have a quilted appearance, their convex cells refracting light differently throughout the day. At the building’s heart, a three-story atrium sits beneath a giant skylight as a dynamic public attraction, connecting the 130,000-square-foot space’s shopping levels.
