Intermix Meatpacking Flagship

The first of a new generation of stores designed for the multi-vendor high-fashion retailer Intermix, this 2,500-square-foot boutique in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District nestles beneath the High Line, the park on the West Side’s 1930s-era elevated railroad. In the soaring space, a 10-foot-tall, ribbon-like screen made of 1,600 panes of curved, mirror-polished aluminum hangs from the steel track, diffusing and reflecting daylight from floor-to-ceiling windows and site-specific light installations by Brooklyn designer Bec Brittain. In the fitting area, fumed European white oak wraps the floor, walls and ceiling, creating a wooden grotto. Elsewhere, an oversized custom-designed oval ottoman covered in soft, pale-purple leather serves as a central seating element in the footwear area, and antiqued, slightly rusticated black Belgian limestone covers the floor in a random pattern, referencing the neighborhood’s cobblestone streets.
