The design for this downtown Manhattan outlet of the high-fashion cashmere label TSE was born out of the aesthetic of a historic, quintessentially gritty Soho loft, now newly outfitted with modern, luxurious finishes. The boutique retains the brick walls, oak floors and exposed ductwork and piping of the original raw space, juxtaposing them with refined, highly lacquered, soft-white wall panels whose curving shape creates a ribbon effect throughout the store. The smooth finishes of these panels both contrast with and complement the rich, intricate textures of the cashmere. Lightweight display fixtures — made of gently arched, satin-finished stainless-steel bars — hang from the ceiling or stand in front of walls, giving the sense that the clothing is floating above the floor or in front of the lacquered panels, rather than simply hanging.
